Silent Sunday: More reasons to love the UK

Posted on August 11, 2014 by Circles in the Sand

I’m a day late with Silent Sunday as my blog is still on Dubai time, but following on from yesterday’s Naked Bike Ride photo, here are two more reasons why I love trips back to the UK …

The innovative design inside the local public library – for once, my boys actually leapt at the chance to read quietly, thanks to the circular cubby holes

Being able to buy booze at the supermarket is a joy in itself when you live in the UAE, but this display says it all! (Could be for the teachers, of course)

PS: Think your friends might like this too? I'd love you to share it. Thanks – you rock!

As Brittany struggles through the ups and downs of her newly single life in the sandpit and tries to shrug off the ‘trailing spouse’ label she hated anyway, she turns for support to four very different expat friends: Adrianne, Natasha, her first ‘ex’ and a bottle of Prosecco.

Louisa Bowen receives the news every pilot’s wife fears but never expects: her husband’s plane has vanished, beyond radar and with no mayday call. Her sister Ginnie swoops in to support her, but when Captain Bowen is accused of sabotaging the flight, her only sibling is strangely unsurprised.

“The school run is a catwalk … and the class bear has been to Lapland”

Julie Wainscote becomes an overnight Twitter sensation when her live TV gaffe goes viral. Fired from her job, she takes up the challenge of becoming a stay-at-home mum to her son, Jacob. “An uplifting and candid story about one of the most difficult decisions any mother has to make. A truly funny, insightful and beautifully written slice of parenting life.”
